Modern high-density orchards, protective netting, vigorous canopy growth and close planting can create productive orchard systems — but they can also create areas of shade. Fruit developing deeper within the canopy may receive substantially less light than fruit positioned on the outside of the tree.
Reflective ground cover gives growers another way to manage that light environment.

LIGHT, MATURITY & °BRIX
Light does more than influence colour.
Photosynthesis drives carbohydrate production within the tree, while fruit maturity involves changes in sugars, acids, pigments and other quality characteristics. Research into reflective orchard systems has therefore examined not only colour, but also parameters including soluble solids (°Brix), maturity and fruit quality.
Results vary between crops, cultivars, seasons and orchard systems — which is exactly why AgriSun encourages growers to evaluate the technology within their own production environment.
Improved Harvest Uniformity
Uneven light exposure can contribute to uneven colour development within a canopy. Research has shown that improving light penetration can support more uniform colour development, potentially helping growers achieve a greater proportion of fruit meeting target colour requirements at harvest.
